What to Put on a Salon Gift Certificate
Write a clear salon gift certificate with the business name, value or service, redemption instructions, unique reference and properly reviewed terms.

A salon gift certificate should explain what the recipient has received and how to redeem it. Start with the actual product: a monetary value, a named service or a promotional benefit. Then write the certificate so the front desk can honor it without guessing what the purchaser intended.
Include the essential fields
- Business name and relevant location or locations.
- Gift value or clearly defined service entitlement.
- Recipient and purchaser fields if your process uses them.
- A unique certificate reference managed by the business.
- Redemption instructions and a public contact method.
- Applicable, approved terms in readable language.
- Issue or transaction information needed by your operating system.
A wording structure to adapt
A gift for [recipient]
From [purchaser]
Gift value or service: [approved description]
Redeem at: [business and eligible location]
To arrange your visit: [public booking or contact details]
Certificate reference: [unique identifier]
Terms: [approved terms for this product]
This is a content structure, not ready-to-print legal language. Replace every bracketed field and have the actual terms reviewed before production. Do not publish placeholder wording or add an expiration date simply because a design has space for one.
Clarify the entitlement
If the certificate covers a service, explain what happens when the guest requests an upgrade or a different treatment. If it represents a dollar value, confirm how partial redemption and remaining balances work. Ask your provider and adviser how gratuities, refunds and other conditions should be handled for your product.
Keep promotional vouchers distinct
A purchased gift certificate and a free promotional coupon are not automatically interchangeable. Their disclosures and applicable rules may differ. Review the federal gift-card requirements and relevant state rules for the actual arrangement rather than copying terms from another business.
Test the wording with staff
Give a sample to the front desk and ask them to explain how it would be sold, recorded, redeemed and checked for a remaining balance. If they need to invent an answer, resolve the policy or workflow before printing. Good wording makes the gift feel effortless for the recipient and manageable for the salon.
